Angela’s Corner: Giving Thanks for Family

November is the month of giving thanks.  Therefore, for the next four weeks, I have decided to give my own thanks as a breast cancer survivor.  1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, “give thanks in all circumstances.”  I’m starting to live by that, and right now, I choose to give thanks for my family.

If you have been reading my past blog articles, then you may know already that I have a fantastic husband and daughter.  They have been amazing during my cancer journey.  Each fought alongside me from the start.  They helIMG_0192d my hand when I needed it, gave me encouragement, and provided as much love as they could.  They both continue to support me – just like I would hope.  Without them by my side, I know my journey would have been harder to manage.

In addition to my family unit, my parents, siblings, and extended family were always there for me as well.  They may live hours away, but I knew I had their support.  I cannot say thanks enough for the well wishes and prayers that were sent my way.  It seems they knew just when I needed a little pick-me-up with a card in the mail or an extra-special Facebook message.  I have always felt close to my family and this diagnosis has just helped to bring us closer.

My husband’s family, accepting me as one of their own, provided support to me that was simply amazing.  They may have only known me for a short time, but the immediate love and support they sent to me was above and beyond my expectations.

Without my family’s love and support, I would not be where I am today.  Like many families, I’m sure mine is a little dysfunctional at times, but when push comes to shove we have each other’s back.  To my family, I thank you.  You are compassionate.  You are supportive.  You are simply amazing.  Thank you for being you.
