Most of us don’t like waiting. It starts when we’re kids and we feel like we have to wait for everything. Maybe you remember being on the edge of your seat waiting for a new game or toy to hit the stores. Or maybe it seemed like forever until you were tall enough to ride a roller coaster. Kids wait impatiently for parents to get home or chores to be over, and whenever they’re waiting, time seems to crawl by at a snail’s pace.

As adults we still find ourselves waiting, and sometimes we’re waiting for things that will have a lifelong impact. We wait for new babies to be born, we wait for our kids to finish high school, and we wait to hear health test results. Perhaps as adults we’re more mature and don’t whine and fidget while we wait, but it’s still hard.

But there’s nothing so satisfying as when the wait is over! The family member returns, the decision is made, a dream comes true. And if we’re waiting for something sad or frightening, sometimes even receiving bad news is better than having to keep waiting.

But what if you were waiting to meet part of your own body for the first time? Like a new set of boobs, for example? For women who’ve undergone reconstructive surgery, they have to wait to do just that!

Chiara D’Agostino invites us to take part in the fun part of the waiting process—when the wait is over! It’s been a long process for Chiara. After her double mastectomy she had expanders implanted and her breast skin stretched until she was ready for a permanent implant. (Check out her implant prep process here.) Even when she woke up from surgery, Chiara had to wait to see how her implants would look. How kind of her to share her special day with us!

We’re grateful that we get to share a part of what Chiara calls, “The Revelation of the Boobs!”

Katie Taylor started writing in 5th grade and hasn't stopped since. Her favorite place to pen a phrase is in front of her fireplace with a cup of tea, but she's been known to write in parking lots on the backs of old receipts if necessary. She and her husband live cozily in the Pacific Northwest enjoying rainy days and Netflix.
