When This Newlywed Found Out She Had a Lump, She Canceled Her Honeymoon

At just 23 years of age, newly-married Kate Poole had no reason to be concerned about her health — so it came as a rude shock when she learned that she had stage 2 breast cancer. The cancer, a rare type called mucinous carcinoma, is typically found in women between the ages of 60 and 70, and it makes up about 2 to 3 percent of all cancer cases. With no family history of breast cancer, Katie never performed self-exams and was lucky that she and her husband found the lump on their own. A week later, she got the official diagnosis.

Wise from her experience, she wants all women to perform regular self exams to stay safe. Watch the video to see what Katie has to say about the importance of self exams.
