In this news video, doctor-turned-actor Ken Jeong, explains how he composed a comedic love letter to his wife and presented it in small bits while playing Mr. Chow in the blockbuster hit, “The Hangover.” Jeong, who is Korean, sprinkled Vietnamese sound bites throughout the movie for his wife, Tran, to provide her with laughter during her struggle with breast cancer.
The offer for Ken to act in “The Hangover” came up right in the middle of Tran’s chemo treatments.
“Ken was so strong for me,” Tran says. “When the opportunity for “The Hangover” came up, he really worried about it. He said, ‘I don’t know if I should do this.'”
The comedian ad libbed little phrases like “kai chee,” which is Vietnamese for “chicken die,” as inside jokes for his wife.
