She’s Showing The World Her Scars So Survivors Aren’t Ashamed Of Theirs

Melanie Testa was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to undergo a mastectomy. Being an artist, she says that symmetry is important to her — so she chose not to undergo reconstructive surgery or use any prosthetics. She says that “visual representation for this body type is very important, so that no women feel they need to hide.” Despite the 17-inch scar across her chest, Melanie has embraced her new body type and has posed for several projects, including ads for underwear brands.
