When Shannen Doherty Started Losing Her Hair To Chemo, Her Mom Helped Her Through ItC. Dixon
Shannen Doherty opened up about her ongoing breast cancer battle in early 2016, which we posted previously about here. She has been candid about her emotions during this time, and we’ve witnessed her raw fear and her uncertainty, as well as her hope for the future.
During the summer of 2016, Doherty faced a side effect of chemo treatment that so many patients go through: hair loss. Panicked, she ran to her mom, crying, and told her she wanted to cut off her hair as soon as possible. So Mom grabbed some scissors and cut off Doherty’s ponytail.
She didn’t stop there. With the help of loved ones, she continued on snipping her strands, and posted the photos on her Instagram account.
“I just — I didn’t want somebody to take a picture of me coming out of the grocery store and be like, ‘Oh, god, look at her,'” Doherty said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I wanted to put it out there the way that it felt the best for me to put it out there. And also, if I could help one person, then it makes me go, ‘Oh, okay, I–I–It’s easier to live with having cancer if I know I’m helping at least one person.”
We love how open Doherty has been about her journey, and we appreciate how candid she’s been about such a tough, life-changing experience.
Take a look at the haircuts she went through, and then watch a snippet of her interview on ET at the end of the post.
