Evelyn Lauder, Vice President of the Estee Lauder Cosmetics Corporation, died on November 11, 2011 from ovarian cancer. Though her famous name may bring up images of lipstick and makeup, her lasting legacy is that of the ubiquitous pink ribbon.

In 1989 Evelyn was diagnosed with breast cancer and used her experience to increase awareness around the world. In 1992 she designed and started handing out small pink-ribbon lapel pins. In 1993 she co-founded the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), an independent not-for-profit organization whose mission is to cure breast cancer in our lifetime by providing critical funding for innovative clinical research at leading medical centers worldwide.

Evelyn Lauder, The Breast Cancer Site thanks you for your tireless work against this terrible disease. Your name lives on in the pink ribbon and with every survivor.
