Breast Implant Sizing: What You Need to Know

A lot more goes into choosing a breast implant than just picking the size you want. You may be surprised to find out that certain sizes are actually not possible on certain people due to the size of their frame. There’s also shape to worry about, and the terminology used by breast implant companies are not always easy to understand (do you know what a breast footprint is, for example?).

Plus, different brands have different sizing guidelines, so a size that works well for you in one brand might not in another. Breast implants are measured in a variety of different ways, including their width, fullness, projection, and how many cc’s of fluid are contained inside them. In the case of teardrop-shaped implants, the diameter is not the same in all directions, meaning the height of the implant must be taken into account as well as the width.

It’s often difficult to tell before the surgery exactly how each implant will work on a particular patient without an expert opinion. So it’s important to take advice from a surgeon (or a dozen, if you like) to determine what the best option is for you. Nobody wants to have to switch implant sizes after they’re already in.

Your surgeon should be able to tell you which size or sizes would work well for you, but it’s also good to stay in the know. If you’re wondering how exactly breast implants work, you’re in luck. Dr. Eddy Dona knows all about breast implants and how they’re sized.
