Just stay positive!

I am a 40 year old mother of 2 wonderful kids. My mother died of advance stage ovary cancer when she was only 46, thus cancer had been part of my life from a young age. I was therefore very wary; doing self examinations and going for regular checks, including breast sonar’s/mammograms from age 21. I had been diagnosed with breast cancer on 11 June 2011 after I discovered the lump during self examination. My mammogram was negative; sonar picked the 1.6cm lump up and was confirmed as stage 2 cancer after biopsy. My right breast was removed with no effected lymph node which was a great relieve! I just completed my last chemotherapy (4 treatments every 3 weeks followed by 12 weekly treatments). I later learned that I am positive for the BRAC2 gene. Temoxafin will be part of my life for the next 5 years now.
I had wonderful support from my family and friends during the past 6 months and am so grateful for that!
To be diagnosed with cancer is not easy, losing your hair is traumatic, and going for chemotherapy and feeling sick is not easy at all. I chose life so made a decision to fight back. I kept on working despite receiving treatment, and most of all, I stayed positive! I can say that your brain is a very powerful organ, and by staying positive it helps you to fight cancer!
If it was not for the grace of God, this road would have been very difficult for me and I thank Him for it. My message to all cancer fighters out there is; just stay on your knees and stay positive! I know I still have a long road to recovery, but I am free. Embrace life!
