Little Girl Completes 600 Acts Of Kindness In 1 Year…The Breast Cancer Site
8-year-old Alex McKelvey was looking for a way to honor her grandmother, who passed away in September of 2013. She, along with her family, decided to do 60 acts of kindness by March 22nd, 2014, what would have been her grandma’s 60th birthday. That date came and went, but the McKelvey’s are still going strong. Alex decided to raise the bar to 600 acts of kindness by the same time next year. So what acts are being done in the name of kindness?
For starters, encouraging notes. Lots of encouraging notes.
Some notes go to strangers:
While other notes go to a specific group of people
Some notes even carry a little extra change at convenient locationsThe latest endeavor, which was completed right before her March 22nd deadline, was a bit bigger. Alex and her family collected donations for games and toys to renovate the Youth Center at the local YMCA. They spend weeks painting and fixing up the space. When it was complete, not only did the Youth Center have a facelift, courtesy of the McKelvey’s, but it is fully equipped with a TV, blu-ray player, board games, and gaming tables.
I love that Alex is so shy in this photo, as if to say, “it’s not about me!” In fact, that’s exactly what she told Huffington Post in a recent interview. “I’m not doing these to be a perfect girl or celebrity,” Alex said. “I don’t even want to be any of those. I just want to be a nice little girl.”
