A day-long party in the Hamptons was hosted at the North Haven beachfront estate of Richard and Lisa Perry in support of their friend Maria Baum, a breast cancer survivor. With one in eight women in the U.S. being diagnosed with breast cancer each year, even the swanky world of wealthier Americans is affected.

The event, which was called "Paddle and Party for Pink," featured paddle surf races in the morning with pro athletes such as Laird Hamilton. Baum frequently paddle surfed throughout the process of her diagnosis, treatment and recovery. She credits the sport as being able to provide her with time and the opportunity for spiritual solace while on her difficult journey. The event stretched into the evening hours and featured food, dancing and an auction on surf boards that were designed by Martha Stewart and Nicole Miller, along with various other designer pieces. By the end of the night, the $1.2 million had been raised and was donated to fund research on the disease that affects so many women.
