Sheridan Smith to Play Breast Cancer Blogger in New BBC Drama

Sheridan Smith to play a breast cancer blogger in BBC drama.

Actress Sheridan Smith is set to play real-life breast cancer blogger Lisa Lynch in a new BBC television drama, according to the Daily Mirror. Lynch, a journalist, was diagnosed with the disease at age 28 and took to her blog to document the experience. Unfortunately, she lost her battle with breast cancer at age 33, but she has been touted for shaping the way young women think of breast cancer through her writings in her blog and book, “The C-Word.”

“That’s why I want to tell her story,” Sheridan told the source. “For her husband Pete, for her family and for everyone whose lives are touched by cancer. I’m so sad that Lisa won’t get to see the finished drama, having been so involved in the development of it. I’m honored and humbled that she wanted me to play her on screen, and I hope that I will make her proud.”

Lynch’s book saw immediate success in its first year of publication with 140,000 copies sold, according to The Guardian. It was hailed by U.K.-actor Stephen Fry as being “funny and brilliant.”

The 90-minute adaptation of “The C-Word” will air on BBC One. Smith was asked to play the role after she became friends with Lynch through Twitter, where they developed the “LL” and “SS” nicknames for each other.
