Tiny Preemies In The NICU Are Swaddled In Love On Valentine’s Day

Having a loved one in the hospital for a long length of time can be difficult for families, especially over a holiday. For parents with premature babies, being unable to take their little one home right away can be devastating.

But small gestures of kindness like this can help families focus on the joys, rather than the uncertainties.

The first Valentine’s Day for the preemies in the NICU at St. Luke’s Health System in Kansas City was made even more special with the help of the March of Dimes.

Volunteers knitted Valentine-themed caps for the darling little ones, complete with knitted hearts. Tiny footprints were taken and smudged onto Valentine’s Day cards made especially for their parents, and families and babies alike dressed in red for special family photo shoots.

Families were able to snuggle their little ones and make it a day filled with love.
